Winton and Gore offices provide a learning environment onsite for students that have been alienated from mainstream schools.

Meet the Alternative Education Team

WINTON Alt Ed

Alternative Education has had a slow start this term - which is a good thing, as it means less children misbehaving at school. We have had one student make a successful transition back into mainstream school. It’s a fantastic result for the team and one that we strive for. The remaining students have eased back into their school work after having a great Christmas break.
We had a shared camp where both AE centres camped overnight at Wendonside. The students enjoyed fishing and kayaking during the day with a BBQ tea, before heading back out for second shot at the elusive fish. Torrential rain during the night left us no choice but to pack up early in the morning and get out before the river bursts its bank. Wet and tired, we made it back to the centre… the stuff memories are made of Team!
The students from Gore and Winton Alternative Education Centres have enjoyed meeting at the Gore Swimming pool on a regular basis. It has provided a great opportunity for all students to get to know each other.
This term we also had the Invercargill YMCA students travel out to Winton for a shared lunch at our centre. They were very impressed with our classroom setup.
